Tom Brady, born on August 3, 1977, in San Mateo, California, is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback in the history of the National Football League (NFL). Over a 23-season professional career, he established a legacy defined by unparalleled success, unmatched longevity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
After playing college football at the University of Michigan—where he was known for his leadership, late-game heroics, and a 20–5 record as a starter—Brady entered the 2000 NFL Draft with modest expectations. He was selected 199th overall in the sixth round by the New England Patriots, a decision that would become one of the greatest draft bargains in sports history.
Brady became the Patriots’ starting quarterback in 2001 after an injury to Drew Bledsoe. He seized the opportunity, leading the team to victory in Super Bowl XXXVI and earning the first of his seven Super Bowl titles. Under the guidance of head coach Bill Belichick, Brady developed into the centrepiece of a historic NFL dynasty, helping New England to nine Super Bowl appearances and six championships.
He was named Super Bowl MVP four times with the Patriots and won NFL MVP honours in 2007, 2010, and 2017. Notably, in 2007, he threw a then-record 50 touchdown passes during a perfect 16–0 regular season.
After 20 seasons with New England, Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 and led them to a Super Bowl LV victory in his first season, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs and securing his seventh title and fifth Super Bowl MVP. Even in his 40s, Brady maintained elite performance levels, leading the NFL in passing yards (5,316) and touchdowns (43) in 2021.
He retired for the first time in 2022, returned briefly for one more season, and officially retired in February 2023. Brady finished his career with numerous records, including the most career passing yards (89,214) and passing touchdowns (649) in the regular season.
Off the field, Brady has become a prominent figure in business, media, and philanthropy. He launched TB12 Sports, co-founded the NFT platform Autograph, and joined ownership groups for the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces and, reportedly, the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders. He also hosts the podcast “Let’s Go!” alongside Jim Gray and Larry Fitzgerald.
Revered for his discipline, leadership, and football IQ, Brady’s legacy is not just about statistics or Super Bowl rings; it is about his transformation of the quarterback position, his influence on modern sports training and longevity, and his ability to consistently win in the game’s most crucial moments.
As the only player with more Super Bowl victories than any NFL franchise, his place in NFL history is secure, and his impact will endure for generations.
While American football is not an international sport in the same sense as soccer, Brady has represented the United States on the grandest stage in American football—the Super Bowl: ten times, more than any other player in NFL history.
