Roma has made a substantial move to secure the services of Richard Ríos, the Colombian midfielder currently playing for Palmeiras. The Italian club has revised their initial offer, increasing it to €30 million (approximately R$ 195 million), which includes a combination of fixed amounts and performance-related bonuses. This new proposal aligns with the initial demands of Palmeiras, bringing the two clubs closer to an agreement on the transfer.
Richard Ríos Reaches Agreement with Roma
Richard Ríos has reportedly given his approval for the transfer to Roma, with both the player and the club agreeing on the terms of the contract, including the salary and the length of the deal. The final bureaucratic steps are now the only obstacles preventing the deal from being officially confirmed. According to sources, Ríos is excited about the prospect of moving to Italy and has shown a strong desire to join Roma.
As part of the agreement, Ríos has also agreed to relinquish 10% of his economic rights. This decision reflects his commitment to the transfer and willingness to make concessions to facilitate the deal. Aside from Palmeiras, Flamengo also holds a portion of Ríos' economic rights, as does the futsal club that first identified his potential.
A Deal on the Brink of Completion
The transfer process is nearing its conclusion, with both Roma and Palmeiras expressing confidence that the deal will soon be finalised. The two clubs are expected to wrap up the final details within this week. Ríos is scheduled to play in Palmeiras' upcoming match against Mirassol on Wednesday (16th), which could be his final appearance for the Brazilian club, marking the end of his successful stint with the team.
Sources close to the negotiations reveal that both parties are optimistic about reaching a resolution in the coming days.
The player has enjoyed considerable success with Palmeiras, and his departure represents a significant move for both the player and the club.
Other European Clubs in the Race for Ríos
Although Roma is the frontrunner in securing Ríos' signature, other European clubs have also shown interest. Inter Milan, the runner-up in the 2023/24 Champions League, explored the possibility of signing the midfielder. However, their negotiations failed to progress, and it seems that they will no longer be in the running. Additionally, several other clubs, including Nottingham Forest, Zenit, FC Porto and Benfica, also made proposals for Ríos.
While the Portuguese and English clubs were unable to meet Palmeiras' asking price of R$ 200 million, Zenit matched the required figure. However, Ríos expressed no interest in making a move to Russia, preferring to continue his career in one of Europe's top leagues. This decision has paved the way for Roma to take the lead in the race to secure the midfielder.
What This Move Means for Roma
Richard Ríos’ arrival at Roma represents a significant step in the club’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its squad. Ríos, known for his versatility and midfield dynamism, will add depth to Roma's midfield options and is expected to play an important role under the club’s management. His arrival is seen as a crucial reinforcement, bolstering Roma’s ambitions both in Serie A and on the European stage.
This deal also signifies Roma's commitment to investing in young talent and their ambition to remain competitive at the highest levels of European football. As Ríos prepares to leave Palmeiras, his future at Roma looks bright, with many eager to see how the Colombian will adapt to life in Italy and contribute to Roma’s success in the coming seasons.
