Summary

The International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) is the governing body for gymnastics worldwide. Established in 1881, it is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, and oversees various disciplines of gymnastics, including artistic, rhythmic, trampoline, acrobatic, and aerobic gymnastics. The FIG aims to promote gymnastics globally, ensuring the sport is accessible and developed at all levels.

The federation's primary responsibilities include organising international competitions, such as the World Championships and the Olympic Games gymnastics events. It sets the rules and regulations governing the sport, ensuring uniformity in judging and competition formats. The FIG also focuses on the development of gymnastics through training programmes, educational initiatives, and support for member federations.

With over 150 member federations, the FIG plays a crucial role in enhancing cooperation among national federations. It promotes fair play, integrity, and the well-being of athletes, emphasising the importance of safety and injury prevention in training and competition.

The FIG engages in various partnerships and collaborations with other sports organisations to further its objectives. Through initiatives aimed at increasing participation and visibility, the federation strives to attract new athletes and audiences to gymnastics.

The FIG also actively promotes gender equality and inclusivity within the sport. It encourages women's participation and supports the development of programmes that facilitate access for underrepresented groups.
